Monkeys Call
History
In Monkey culture it is a rite of passage for young males to craft a weapon for themselves. They cannot claim to have entered adulthood / manhood until succeeding at this task. This shield was one of these.
This item was crafted by a young Herambae. Herambae, in his early years, displayed lots of talent. He often produced solutions to problems that thought outside the box and was considered an elevated thinker among his peers.
For this rite of passage, Herambae wanted to try something different, new. He decided to craft a defensive item that could double as an offensive weapon. Early in the process it was decided that the item would be a shield that doubled as a flame thrower. He thought about it and tweaked the design all within his head for approximately a year leading up to his eligibility. Upon reaching this time, he produced an item (The Monkey Shield) that he hoped would be replicated for others to utilize and strengthen his people. He called it the Monkeys Call
The device was well received for its ingenuity and uniqueness, but difficult to produce and realistically, many worried it would be misused and cause more damage to their own monkey fighters than any opposing force. There were a small number of replicas made but this item was never widely crafted and used by Monkey-kind as Herambae had hoped.
Despite this, Herambae continued to wield Monkeys Call with great success until he was recruited, along with a few other strong fighters, to go investigate nearby disturbances such as Earthquakes and irregular animal behavior. They encountered Rum-Ma during their scouting who challenged them to kill each other and prove to him the strongest fighter who would then join in Rum-Ma's army in some way. They were ordered to do this or risk Rum-Ma's wrath upon those they loved. Herambae was the last monkey to survive, helped much in part by his skillful usage of Monkeys Call as well as the other fighters lack of knowledge on how to counter such a weapon. Rum-Ma collected his prize and thus he became the template for all future monkey humunculi in Rum-Ma's army.
Monkeys Call was taken from Herambae at that time (joining Rum-Ma's army) and went unused until a successful humunculi, fit to be a general, could be created. That creation then took Monkeys Call for its own.
Eventually Kimblee was able to claim Monkeys Call from him and now wields it as his own.
Description
The shield is approximately 4'x 3 and is colored in shades of brown. On its front is a sculpture of a monkeys face with his mouth open. On it's rear is 1 standard leather strap for stability but instead of another strap, a large handle with a trigger mechanism exists.
When loaded and functioning properly, the trigger mechanism releases a pressurized valve inside the shield. The valve is designed to convert liquid to aerosol or a fine mist. After this, a timed flint and steel piece is triggered to spark.
It can spray 3x when completely full. To refill, the wielder can twist the handle to reveal a port for adding more liquid.
In its twisted state, the handle should also be used to crank pressure back into the flint and steel striker which operates on a spring that discharges with each trigger pull.
In combat the shield can be discharged multiple times but pressure must be cranked back into the flint and steel striker as a standard action in between discharges.
Grants wielder +2 AC
Almost any flammable liquid will work but it's design was intended for standard oil.
Target is dealt 2d6 fire damage each round for 3 rounds of hit unless doused.
